Izabela Tarasewicz

Izabela Tarasewicz (b. 1981, Białystok)

Sculptor, drawer, performance artist. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (Department of Sculpture and Space Activity) and a member of the Penerstwo Group, which was awarded the Guarantee of Culture Prize by the TVP Kultura channel (2011), Tarasewicz conducted a series of workshops at the Arsenał Gallery in Białystok. Entitled “What Divides and What Unites Us”, they focused on the building of relationships between Polish youngsters and the children of Georgian and Chechnyan refugees.

Tarasewicz, who was shortlisted for Polityka’s Passports in 2008 and hailed as one of the most intriguing artists to have emerged recently in Poland, has a great potential. The originality of her activities stems from the themes that she programmatically udertakes as she methodologically analyses existential and identity issues. All her works are founded upon the principle of “preparation”, by dint of which she culls out from the so-called palpable reality weak, painful and marginal elements that connote base physiology and renders them as altered.
